Subtle Color

I recently finished two murals in a home that illustrate the importance of scaling tonal coloration. The first, an entry, called for very subtle color. Because the space contains an entry door and several large windows, painting anything too bold would be fragmented by these openings and detract from the architecture of the room. I was able to bring colors from the adjoining living and dining rooms to subtly join the entry into the area.
The second, contained in a niche off of the entry could support a bolder approach. It's a niche used by the client as a music area containing a grand piano and a beautiful harp. I repeated the same colors, though brighter in intensity and deeper in tone. Now the entry isn't a foreign entity, and the music area is bold enough to shine through to the other rooms as a focal point for the whole area.
